Punto Verde: reconditions computers for NGOs & schools in Mexico, fights against e-waste

Punto Verde (Green Point) is a civil association (& NGO) in Mexico dedicated to promoting the correct recycling of electronic devices, to help preserve and care for our planet and to save the planet from a terrible enemy, E-Waste.

Punto Verde accepts donations of used computers and reconditions them to donate to schools and NGOs across Mexico. These computers have a warranty for 6 months. 

Preferred PCs:

➢ Core 2 Duo processor or higher, or its equivalents in other technologies. 
➢ DDR2 memory or 4 GB DDR3. 
➢ Hard disk of 160 GB. 
➢ WIDE SCREEN LCD Monitor 
➢ Multimedia: DVD-ROM or DVD-RW or higher, speakers and microphone. 
➢ 10/100 network card or 54 Mbps wireless card. 
➢ USB mouse. 
➢ USB keyboard. 

Preferred Laptops: 

➢ Core 2 Duo processor or higher, or its equivalents in other technologies. 
➢ DDR2 memory or 4 GB DDR3 
➢ 160 GB hard disk 
➢ Functional charger 
➢ Functional battery

The equipment and parts can be of any brand.

Those parts that can not be reused due to the level of damage or deterioration are sent to different organizations that are responsible for their reuse or final recycling, as appropriate.

El Escuadrón Verde (the Green Squad) aims to raise awareness among children and young people about E-Waste and appropriate recycling of such through fun games, contests and other activities.

Punto Verde promotes integral and responsible recycling of obsolete electronic waste as well as ecological design in the electronics industry. Its goal is to protect the health and well being of users, workers and communities where electronic equipment is produced and recycled, by pressuring manufacturers to assume full responsibility for the life cycle of their products.
