Last weekend, people across the country convened for #NationalDayofCivicHacking — a day of action where designers, coders, data scientists, and community members partnered with their local governments to solve local issues. The day consisted of more than 40 events across 20 states, with nearly 800 participants working on a wide array of projects centered on bettering our communities. Their projects tackled important issues like clean drinking water in California, power of attorney for immigrants and food access in Nashville, driver's license restoration in Anchorage, and much more.
National Day of Civic Hacking Highlights:
OpenSTL hosted an affordable housing hackathon
Hack for LA held a workshop on human-centered design
Code for Boulder and Code for Denver co-hosted a civic engagement training
Code for DC held its first ever craft hackathon (hey, tikes like tech too!)
If you are interested in getting involved in this work beyond the National Day of Civic Hacking, take the next step and join a Brigade in your area. Not a techie? No problem! Brigade members have various skill sets, and all bring something different table.
