May will be a busy month for data lovers and Markets For Good is making the rounds with new stories.
As we quickly approach May, the world of data has been reminding us of the importance of data for social good and the importance of societies involvement of shaping data for social good. In the most recent piece from Lucy Bernholz, Ph.D., we learn about the upcoming "Locking the Web Open" summit. This summit invites activists, citizens, techies, thinkers, designers, and all those committed to participating in and helping to create what Bernholz calls the "digital civil society." MFG's featured News Roundup presents the Open Data Institute's recent Method Report, "Lessons on supporting public sector open data leadership." This comprehensive report presents a summary of first-hand lessons based on ODI’s experience working with and supporting open data leaders globally. In another News Roundup, MFG takes a look at the new #Breathe hashtag service which provides Indians with real-time information on air pollution levels based on their location, all through a simple tweet. This program is a joint venture between Twitter and IndiaSpend who are using data to encourage social good and informed decision making.
